School Closings and Late Starts

Below are the various circumstances in which we may act in the event of inclement weather.

In Person Learning - Our number one priority is to have students in person at school as much as possible.

Late Start: If the morning weather is inclement but is expected to improve throughout the day, we may call for a Late Start for all Geneva 304 schools. In the event of a Late Start for all Geneva 304 schools, all bus routes would still run, beginning 2 hours later than normally scheduled. The following Late Start schedules also apply to students in alternative placements outside Geneva CUSD 304.

  • Elementary Schools: Drop off is at 9:45 a.m. with a 10 a.m. school start. Dismissal remains at 2:15 p.m.
  • Middle Schools: School starts at 10:35 a.m. Dismissal remains at 3:24 p.m. A detailed Late Start schedule, broken down by grade and period, is available on Geneva Middle School South and Geneva Middle School North websites.
  • High School: School starts at 9:40 a.m. A detailed Late Start schedule, broken down by period, is available on the Geneva High School website.
  • Geneva Early Learning Program, Friendship Station and Kids Zone: A.M. programs would not be offered. P.M. programs would be in session.

E-Learning Day: If inclement weather is expected for the next day, we may decide to call for an E-Learning Day. If an E-Learning Day is called, in lieu of using an Emergency Day, K-12 students would be expected to learn remotely by logging into their 1:1 devices to participate in learning throughout the day. Attendance would be taken remotely. It is important for this reason that students bring home their 1:1 devices daily. Additional details would be provided by your child's school.

Emergency Day: An Emergency Day will be called if schools need to be closed without significant advanced notice.  If an Emergency Day is called, school would be canceled for the day and made up at the end of the year.

We will do our best to decide regarding school closures by 6 a.m. If a late start is utilized called due to inclement weather, please be aware that there is still a possibility that school will be cancelled if conditions do not improve. Every effort will be made to make this decision by 7 a.m., and parents and students are encouraged to continue to monitor the District’s website and local television/radio stations for updates.
