GHS Students Win National MyStudySyncTV Contest

Geneva High School students won the 2017 top high school production award in the fourth annual MyStudySyncTV contest! A panel of judges screened student-produced videos that mimicked the signature StudySync®TV videos of student-led literary discussion groups on texts within the StudySync program.

Geneva High School students also swept up many of the awards at their level. In addition to their winning the High School Top Production award for their analysis of Oscar Wilde’s play The Importance of Being Earnest, one of Kate Hertz’s team, Caleb Ericson, won the Best Actor award for his role in the production. Another of Hertz’s students, Sarah Mozden, won the Best Actress award for starring in a submission on Jane Eyre’s novel Wuthering Heights.
The Best Ensemble Cast for a High School Production award also went to Geneva High School students, but this time the students of Corinne Laird, for their video about Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness.

“To create these award-winning episodes, students must work together to develop essay prompts and scripts, plan props and video effects and act—a complete and authentic media experience,” said Romano. “We were impressed by this year's submissions, at once academic and creative. When students are both enthusiastic and informed, it’s incredible what they can accomplish.”
