Negotiation Update: An Important Message from the Board of Education

Dec. 5, 2018

Geneva CUSD 304 schools are closed again today, Wednesday, Dec. 5, as the Geneva Education Association (GEA), the union that represents our 450 teachers, remains on strike.

The Board is working with the GEA and has provided several dates/times to reconvene and continue negotiations. The last offer made prior to the GEA calling for a strike was presented by the Board at the last negotiation session on Tuesday, Dec. 4. As is customary with a formal negotiation process, the Board now awaits a response from the GEA regarding this proposal and the GEA’s availability to return to the bargaining table, hopefully as soon as tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 6.

The next, regularly scheduled business meeting of the District 304 Board of Education is planned for Monday, Dec. 10. If needed, this meeting can be rescheduled to accommodate additional negotiations pending union availability. Of course, we hope that we will have reached a contract agreement by then.

We all want our students and teachers back in the classroom learning and teaching as soon as possible. The Board is committed to reaching a fair and fiscally responsible contract agreement that is the best interest of all District 304 stakeholders — students, teachers, parents/families and our community.

As always, we thank you for your support of District 304 schools and students. We will continue to provide daily email updates on the status of our negotiations. For up-to-date information, please visit the District website.

Sincerely,

Geneva CUSD 304 Board of Education
