South voted Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere by Julie Lamana as its choice for the 2019 Rebecca Caudill book of the year.  How did the rest of Illinois vote?  Stop in to the library next week and find out. In our alternate selection category, Towers Falling by Jewel Parker Rhodes stole the vote. If you'd like to read either of these books or any of our selections from this year, come see us in the library!

Read Across America Week is next week, March 4th-8th.  Stay tuned for information on fun ways to celebrate with us in the library and earn raffle tickets for drawings that will take place on the 8th.

To celebrate the first day of Read Across America Week, Monday is going to be a pajama day. So, roll out of bed and wear your pjs to school!  Bring a book to read for our Lounge & Read Day.

On Tuesday, March 5th you can join Student Council in the sewing room after school until 4:25 to make toys and beds for the animals at Anderson Animal Shelter. All are welcome to come help!

Don’t get put in the doghouse, join us at North on Tuesday evening at 6:30 for the GMSS Book Club. This would be a great weekend to curl up and read A Dog’s Purpose, or another dog-related book, and then come out on Tuesday night to share your love of dogs over pizza.  See Mrs. Fedor or Mrs. Hollis for details.

The collection drive for Anderson Animal Shelter will continue all next week!  There are so many things you can donate that will help the shelter. Anything from paper towels or shredded newspaper to pet store gift cards are helpful, but a full list can be found around the school and on the video announcements.  You can bring your donations to the Main Office.  Homeless pets need our help too!

Attention 7th and 8th graders, the 7th and 8th grade dance is coming up on March 15th from 6:30-8. Why not stay after school and go bowling with your friends! If you’re interested in coming bowling before the dance, pick up a permission slip from the main office. It’s only $7 per student!

Next week is Spirit Week!!!  Monday is PJ day, Tuesday is Neon day, Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday (wear your craziest outfit), Thursday is College Wear Day and Friday is Geneva Spirit day.

Teachers, if you have students with elective forms, please collect them and bring them to your office at your earliest convenience. 6th and 7th graders: If you haven’t turned in your elective form it must be turned in by Monday!
