Don’t forget about the collection for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton this week. Both North and South are collecting clothing and household items such as wash cloths, hand towels, bath towels sets, linens, personal products and cleaning supplies. A full list of items may be found on the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans website http://helpaveteran.org/.

The collection will run through this Friday. Please consider donating to this worthwhile cause. Items may be dropped off at either school.

From the Sports Desk:

The Geneva fans packed the house last night to see a great win by the 8th grade basketball A Team.  Alex Smith led the charge with his tenacious defense and stellar point guard play as the boys stormed back to tie the game with 30 seconds left.  The boys sealed the deal in overtime with some clutch free throw shooting to defeat Yorkville.

The B team followed up that exciting game with one of its own.  Braden Fels lead the team in blocks and Landon O’ Donahue lead the team in rebounds.  The Vikings needed a little more offense though as they fell a few baskets short of a victory.

The 7th grade A basketball team played one of the more exciting games in a long time.  After trailing early the team took a 2 point lead into half time.  From there the game swung back and forth through a first overtime.  With South up by 2 points and 4 seconds to go, a Yorkville player made a shot at the buzzer to force a second overtime.  In the second overtime South was down by 2 with 6 seconds to go and needed to go the length of the court.  Just before the horn went off Colin Hasty managed to get away a 3-pointer which caught nothing but net giving South the 1 point win.

The B team controlled the scoreboard in the second half of their game and also won their game over a very tall Yorkville team.
