Geneva School Board Invites Community to ‘GenOvation Forum’ Showcasing Innovations in Education
The Geneva Community School Board invites the public to the Nov. 14 GenOvation Forum, during which time students and teachers will demonstrate innovative practices in learning

GENEVA – The Geneva Board of Education invites the community to the 2017 GenOvation Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 14, to learn about the District’s use of innovative practices and technologies in the classroom. Students and teachers from across grade levels and schools will demonstrate innovative practices and technologies that are helping to enhance learning during the 2017-18 school year. The open house-style public forum will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at Geneva High School (416 McKinley Ave., Geneva).

The event is a chance for residents of Geneva School District to see how their investments in education through their tax dollars are helping to prepare Geneva’s young people for the future. Board members will be on hand to answer questions from the community, and refreshments will be provided by the Viking Coffee Shop.

“We encourage parents, grandparents and community members to stop in to explore ‘innovation stations’ and engage with students and teachers,” said Superintendent Kent Mutchler.

The name of this year’s event stems from the District’s 2017-18 theme, GenOvation, which emulates Geneva’s innovative practices, according to Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching Andrew Barrett. “We strive to take risks and to employ relevant and meaningful practices for our students,” he added.

Innovation stations will showcase how classrooms achieve the District’s vision of developing self-directed, lifelong learners; effective communicators; complex creative, and adaptive thinkers; and collaborative and productive citizens.
