Join the GHS Twirlers! Become a part of our team, and perform at all GHS home football games and parades. No experience necessary! Come to the Clinic and Tryouts on Thursday May 10th in the West Gym here at South from 3:30 – 4:25. We will provide batons for clinic and teach students how to twirl. We will review all information about being a part of the team and provide handouts. This is a great opportunity to become a part of a high school sport, and enjoy the excitement and experience of Friday night football games as a Freshman! Pick up a flyer with all the information in the office.

Geneva Middle School North and South will be participating in the 13th Annual Bridge Walk to benefit the Living Well Cancer Center in Geneva. Please consider joining the team on Saturday, May 19th at Fabyan Forest Preserve for a 5K walk along the Fox River. With your support, we can make a difference in the lives of those fighting cancer, right here in our own community. If you would like to join our school team, please pick-up a permission slip in the office.

8th grade girls, if you are interested in finding out more about GHS LaCrosse, be sure to join current high school players and coaches after school today from 4-6pm at the soccer fields for a clinic. No experience needed. We hope to see you and your friends there!

Have you read at least one Rebecca Caudill nominated book featured in the library?  If you have, the Book Battle needs you! On Tuesday May 15th, South will battle North in a trivia contest and the winning team gets the coveted Book Battle trophy! South won the trophy last year so, let’s keep the trophy where it belongs! Pick up a permission slip and get more details from your Language arts teacher or Mrs. Mourek in the library.

Science Club is meeting tomorrow.

Art Club meets again next week Monday and Writers Club on Tuesday.

Chess Club closed out its season last night versus state ranked St. Charles Thompson and up and coming Elgin Washington. Washington saw the most improvement between matches, improving their score by 20 points between the first and second match. Every point mattered until the end, with Thompson edging out the North/South team by two in the final score.

Final scores: Thompson 200, North/South 198 and Washington 118

Point leaders for Geneva South were-Brock Mason and Michael Torrence with perfect scores and Samuel Driesbach, Jared Walter, Jacob Hollis, Nick Rudiger, and Grayson Schaeffer with high scores as well.

From the Sports Desk:

The GMSS track teams had a windy meet against Kaneland last night. For the boy’s teams, Colin Opdyke led the charge for the 7th grade boys distance crew, running a nice 4 by 800-meter leg and following it up with a solid finish in the 800. Ethan Zibble did a great job in the 100-meter dash and the sprint relays. Ryan Leake took first place in the hurdles and Carter Powelson and Tyler Tusile took 1st and 2nd place in triple jump and Carter Powelson established a new school record. 4x400 team of John Klis, Daniel Sustersic, Adam Drexler and Nathan Lehman who sacrificed their own personal events and joined together to turn in an outstanding performance in the meet's final event.

The girls track team also had an exciting meet against Kaneland. Hannah McMillen, Elise Waldchen, Kayla Eichstaedt and Abby McMillen set the school record for the 4X800 meter relay, while Simone Sliwa, Emma Pasquale, and Katie Voreis had great results for their individual events.

Music Students: Friday is a Band/Orchestra day.
