In a surprise, student-led assembly this week, Harrison Street Elementary School received a special gift that will benefit its classrooms for years to come. At the start of the assembly, students
on the gymnasium stage read from a lighthearted script about the possibilities
of the reasons for this particular assembly, while some young audience members whispered
and others waited in jaw-dropped anticipation.
Applause and cheers rang out as the student leaders finally unveiled that learned that Burlington Stores Inc., through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, was donating $10,000 to Harrison Street School in celebration of Burlington’s new store in Geneva.
Two Burlington representatives, District
Manager David Dickson and Geneva Store Manager Art Gone, then stepped out from
behind a curtain holding a very large check, met with more cries of excitement
and applause.
A representative from AdoptAClassroom.org contacted school
administrators and helped to secure the donation for Harrison Street Elementary
School. The generous donation which will provide $10,000 in new curriculum
resources that benefit students in the classroom, says HSS Principal Mrs.
Brenna Westerhoff, such as recess equipment, flexible seating, science
materials, math games, and classroom libraries.
“On behalf of Harrison Street students and staff, I would like to thank Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org for adopting our entire school,” said Westerhoff. “Our teachers look forward to using the funds to enhance learning in our school and in their classrooms. We are thankful for the support we received from Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org.
Burlington, in partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, makes a
donation to a local school in each Grand Opening market to celebrate a new
store location. The Burlington store will open this month in Fabyan Crossing
shopping center at 2000 S. Randall Road.
