Each
year students across Geneva CUSD 304 participate in a national vocabulary
competition involving nearly 150,000 students. The WordMasters Challenge is an
exercise in critical thinking that holds three meets each year. The following
are students from the second 2018 meet who have been recognized by the WordMasters Challenge™ program.
MEET 2
Geneva Middle School North: The eighth-grade team scored an impressive 193 points out of a possible 200 in the second
of three meets this year, placing second
in the nation. Competing in the difficult
Blue Division, eighth-graders Patrick Borse, Emma Olson and Nick Reich each earned
a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 26 eighth-graders
achieved this result. Other students from Geneva
Middle School North who achieved outstanding results in the meet include
eighth-graders Jaimee Beyer, Sunni Foard, Emily Howell, Michael Kolschowsky,
Julianna Longo, Kate Olson and Lindsey Posejpal.
Geneva Middle School South: The seventh-grade team scored an impressive 177 points out of a possible 200 in the second
of three meets this year, placing fifth
in the nation. Competing in the Gold Division,
students from Geneva Middle School South
who achieved outstanding results in the meet include seventh-graders Claire
Jennings, Annabelle Karch and Brock Mason.
Harrison Street Elementary School: Competing
in the very difficult Gold Division, fourth-grader
Ellie Haberthur
earned a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 21 fourth-graders
achieved this result. Other students from Harrison
Street School who achieved outstanding results in the meet include
third-graders Lucas Meyers and Claire Tottman, and fifth-grader Edain Reiner.
Heartland Elementary School: Competing
in the very difficult Gold Division, fifth-grader
Annaliese Rothaar
earned a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 24 fifth-graders
achieved this result. Other students from Heartland
Elementary who achieved outstanding results in the meet include
third-grader Noah Hallahan and fifth-graders Abby Alexander and Dominic DelMundo.
Mill Creek Elementary School: Competing
in the very difficult Gold Division, third-grader
Julia Swierczewski
earned a perfect score in the recent challenge. Nationally, only 58 third-graders
achieved this result. Other students from Mill
Creek Elementary School who achieved outstanding results in the meet
include third-graders Casey Bean, Eleanor Costlow and Ella Weinberger, and
fifth-grader Hunter Mathews.
