Each year, students across Geneva CUSD 304 participate in a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 participants. The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that holds three meets each year.The following are students from the third and final 2018 meet who have been recognized by the WordMasters Challenge™ program.
MEET 3
Geneva Middle School North: The eighth-grade team
scored an impressive 193 points out of a possible 200, placing third in the
nation. The eighth-graders also placed second nationally in the overall
competition with a cumulative score of 577 points out of a possible 600. Competing
in the difficult Blue Division, eighth-graders Jaimee Beyer, Sunni Foard and Marina Sofiak each earned a perfect score of 20 in the recent meet. Nationally, only 43 eighth-graders achieved this result. Other students at Geneva Middle School North who achieved outstanding results in the last meet of the year include eighth-graders Sophia Acklin, Katie Chitwood, Julianna Longo, Kelsi Miller, Emma Olson, Dylan Pratt and Kyle Watson. Eighth-graders Sunni Foard (58 points), Nick Reich (57 points), Emma Olson (57 points), Julianna Longo (57 points) and Jaimee Beyer (57 points) also earned individual Highest Honors in the overall competition. Highest Honors are reserved for students who place among the top 10-15 students in their division.
Geneva Middle School South: The seventh-grade team
scored an impressive 183 points out of a possible 200, placing fifth in the
nation. The seventh-graders also placed ninth nationally in the overall
competition with a cumulative score of 517 points out of a possible 600. Competing
in the very difficult Gold Division, seventh-grader
Kayla Eichstaedt earned a perfect score of 20. Nationally, only 20 seventh-graders achieved this result. Other students at Geneva Middle School South who achieved
outstanding results in the last meet of the year include seventh-graders Annabelle Karch and Adeline
Meyers.
Fabyan Elementary School: Competing in the very difficult
Gold Division, third-grader Wang Andrew earned a perfect score of 20 on the
challenge. Nationally, only 46 third-graders achieved this result. Other
students from Fabyan Elementary School who achieved outstanding results in the
meet include third-grader Mason Mader; fourth-graders
Andrew Boyer and Abby Fauth; and fifth-graders Aiden Houck, Caroline Mikrut,
Hannah Shreve and Callie Zibble.
Harrison
Street Elementary School: The third-grade team scored an impressive 185
points out of a possible 200, placing 10th in the nation. Competing in the very
difficult Gold Division, third-graders Tessa Helfers, Adrian Marcheschi, Joe Sapsford and
Joey Swanson, and fifth-graders Fiona Guzniczak and Torin Holda each
earned a perfect score of 20 in the recent meet. Nationally, only 46 third graders and 65 fifth graders achieved
this result. Other
students from Harrison Street Elementary School who achieved outstanding
results in the last meet of the year include third-grader
Lucas Meyers, fourth-grader Jordan Hunter, and fifth-graders Evelyn Gibbons,
Hailey Jennings and Tessa Macino Miller.
Heartland Elementary School: Competing in the very
difficult Gold Division, fifth-grader James Lusk earned a perfect score of 20.
Nationally, only 65 fifth-graders achieved this result. Other students from
Heartland who achieved outstanding results include third-grader Everett Hilby
and fifth-graders Abby Alexander and Abby Arnold.
Mill Creek Elementary School: Competing in the very
difficult Gold Division, third-graders Casey Bean and Julia Swierczewski each
earned a perfect score of 20. Nationally, only 46 third-graders achieved this
result. Other students from Mill Creek who achieved outstanding results in the
meet include third-grader Cameron Fozo, fourth-graders John Chang and Matthew
Lemke, as well as fifth-graders Hunter Mathews and Ella Samulowitz.
Western Avenue Elementary School: Competing in the very difficult Gold Division, fourth-grader Claire Conklin earned a perfect score of 20. Nationally, only 111 fourth-graders achieved this result. Other students from Western Avenue who achieved outstanding results include fourth-graders Benjamin Murphy and Sophia Peruba, as well as fifth-graders Audrey Arima and Jackson Raby.
