Are you interested in exploring robotics, coding, and technology using LEGO Mindstorms, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and more? Then the Wired Crew is for you! The first meeting is going to be this Thursday, Oct 4th. See Mrs. Fedor in the library with any questions.

 

Who’s ready to have some fun? If you are, then you need to sign up for the next Intramural! It’s the GMS Bowling League! The league will meet on Mondays beginning October 15th through December 10th at St. Charles Bowl. Permission slips are available in the main office and will be due October 10th.

 

Leo’s Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. As you may or may not know, the Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close to their hospitalized child at little to no cost. Collecting pop tabs is such a simple way to help such a tremendous cause! Bring your pop tabs to the cafeteria.

 

Hey Everyone, now that it’s October, don’t forget that it’s also SOCK-tober here at GMSS. Student council is looking for your help in collecting new pairs of socks in any size to donate to the less fortunate in our community. All you have to do is bring in new pairs of socks to the donation bin in the library before or after school. This event will be happening all month long and did I mention that you could win a $20 gift card? That’s right! Bring in your donations and get entered to win!

And don’t forget, the next Student Council meeting is today in the 6W team center after school until 4:25. All are welcome!  Please see Miss Mack or Miss Dagres with any questions.

Can you throw a dodgeball as fast and as accurately as a Civil War soldier?  Then Social Studies Club needs you to fight GMS North in our second annual Civil War Dodgeball Battle.  Social Studies Club's first meeting will be held next Tuesday, October 9th in Mr. Fader's room in the 8 White team center, where we'll learn about Civil War battles and strategize our war plan.

The Chicago Steel has a fall reading incentive program that will earn you a complimentary ticket to a Chicago Steel hockey game at Fox Valley Ice Arena.  Read for 20 minutes 5 days a week for 6 weeks to meet the goal.  See Mrs. Fedor in the library for details.

After school today, all students interested in wrestling should stop by the information booth outside the library in the main lobby to meet the new coaches and grab a flyer with all the details for the upcoming season!

Attention all 8th grade boys’ basketball players.  Basketball tryouts will be held Monday October 15th, Tuesday October 16th, and Thursday October 18th.  Tryouts will run until 5:20 each day.  All boys wanting to tryout must have a current sports physical on file. 

7th and 8th graders are you interested in cheerleading? Please sign-up during your lunch this week and attend an informational meeting next Tuesday, October 9th in Mrs. Tomczak’s room 111. All participants need to have a physical on file before try-outs October 15th.
