This week is
Banned Books Week, which is an annual event celebrating the freedom to
read. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 and focuses on efforts
across the country to remove or restrict access to books while drawing national
attention to the harms of censorship. Come to the library this week to
participate in a Banned Book Week challenge for a chance to win a $10
Barnes and Noble gift card.
The next Student
Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 2nd in the 6W team center
after school until 4:25. All are welcome! Please see Miss Mack or
Miss Dagres with any questions.
It's
Flashback Friday! You know, everyone on our staff here at South was
in middle school once, too! Each Friday, several staff members
middle school pictures will be on display in the library. Can you guess whose
pictures we have up in the library this week?
Snack Attack with
Miss Mack is Back!!! The first session is Thursday, Oct 11th and
permission slips will be due Oct 5th. Space is limited and this one fills up
fast, so pick up a permission slip in the office soon.
Attention all students! Art club has a brand-new session
starting on Monday. Students will design their own Art projects and put on an
Art show. Permission slips are due today.
Are you interested in exploring
robotics, coding, and technology using LEGO Mindstorms, Raspberry Pi, Arduino,
and more? Then the Wired Crew is for you! The first meeting is going to be next
Thursday, Oct 4th. See Mrs. Fedor in the library with any questions.
Hispanic Heritage month continues
through October 15th. Come to the library to see a large display of books as
well as a collection of artifacts from the travels of South's very own Spanish teacher, Senora Lindahl.

The 8th grade football team lost last night to a very good team from St. Charles Wredling. The highlights were two scores, a 50 yard scoring pass from Mason Luker to Matt Fregly for the teams’ first score of the night and a scoring run of 40 yards by Will Szumny in the third quarter.
Your 7th grade Geneva Vikings had their home opener against The Wredling Redhawks yesterday. The Vikings came out of the gate ready to grind. They held their own on defense and only gave up 8 points. Jacob Black set the tone with a couple of big hits that made the Redhawks question why they came. Colin Sprague had an interception that was almost returned for a touchdown. On the offensive side of the ball, Nate Stempowski channeled his inner Michael Vick and ran all over the defense and scored a couple of touchdowns. Charlie Winterhalter didn’t disappoint either because he came up big with a hand full of touchdowns himself. None of this would have been possible without the grind of the offensive line. Rocco Delinardi converted on 4 of 4 two point conversions that added 8 points to the Vikings score. Tristen Spencer got to show a little razzle-dazzle and ran a touchdown from 10 yards out. Patrick Turner had a big time 4th down completion to Michael Torrence that sealed the game for your 7th grade Vikings. The Vikings put up 44 to Wredling’s 8 and they improved their conference record to 3-0. The Vikings are 4-0 overall and look to keep up with their winning season next Tuesday against St. Pats at home. So, come on out and support your Vikings by wearing blue next Tuesday. Be The Hammer!!
