Students Deliberate Human Rights at Capitol Forum
May 3, 2019

Geneva High School social studies students tapped into their critical thinking and productive citizenship skills while attending the Capitol Forum last month on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

During this experience, students deliberated case studies, met with university professors and other experts on the issues, and engaged in a human rights simulation with their peers from across the state.  The students were afforded this opportunity as part of their participation in the Capitol Forum on America’s Future, a program that creates the foundation for long-term civic engagement through a focus on human rights concerns worldwide and in their communities.

Guided by  GHS social studies teacher Ms. Janie Doutsos, students used case studies and readings about policy issues on human rights to empower them to make their own decisions and take action in their own communities.
