Congratulations to Geneva High School Special Education Teacher
Mr. Derek Sutor, who was named the 2019 High School Teacher of the Year award
this weekend by the Kane County Regional Office of Education!
During this year’s annual Educator of the Year ceremony, 36 nominees were honored in a Marvel/Avengers-themed event May 3 at the Q Center in St. Charles. Nominees are selected each year after being nominated by their peers.

Derek Sutor
has worked extremely hard throughout his life to understand his speech
impediment and learned strategies to be successful despite this challenge.
Sutor uses a variety of strategies to meet the needs of his learners and will continue to explore options until the students understand the concept. He always puts the students first — one of his greatest strengths.
“I got help through elementary school, middle school, high school, and college,” Sutor said. “I’ve always had help through my struggles, and I thought: What better of a way to give back than to help students who also need it? If I can give someone hope, then this is worth it.”
