GMS Students Raise Funds to Build Two Homes in Africa

June 10, 2019

A couple weeks ago, students at GMS North and South were competing to raise funds for Children’s Relief International, with the goal of funding 520 blocks needed to build one home for a family in crisis due to Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Africa.

At the end of the fundraiser, enough money was raised to provide two complete homes, which means several lives dramatically improved by their quality of sleep and shelter, according to GMS Counselor Ms. Katlynn Gates. Children's Relief International also will hire workers from the community to build the homes, thus providing more support to those families.

North students raised $2,613.49, and South students raised $2,682.81. Each home costs $2,600 with labor, so the remainder will be used to provide blankets or another housewarming gift, Ms. Gates added.

Many thanks to the students, staff and community who provided this support!
