Dear Families of GMS South,
The end of summer is near, and it is time to get excited for school. Here are a few highlights of things to know.
1.
Schedules, team assignments and transportation information will be available in
ParentVUE on August 7. Please remember team placements for 7th and 8th graders are final.
2. 6th graders, we have left a team placement designation on your schedule. The purpose of this is to help you find your locker area. All team center areas are labeled for this purpose. You might have classes in either of the 6th grade team centers.
3.
We have locker set up nights on August 13 & 19 for all students from 3:30-5:00. For 6th graders there is an additional “meet your teacher” night on Tuesday, August 18. Please remember that there is no need to arrive any earlier than 3:30 for any of these events. There is no specific program and therefore there is no harm walking in at 3:45.
Any student who needs to pick up a PE uniform or spirit wear will also find these located in the cafeteria. Your best plan is to practice the locker combo, walk your schedule and then finish in the cafeteria.
4. Bus information should be available in ParentVUE on August 7 as well. If you do not see your transportation information, please check again on Tuesday next week. Some items in the system are still being refreshed. When you come in the building there will be maps on the walls to help students identify the locations of their buses, but don’t worry too much about this. We will make sure all students find their way home on the first day of school.
5. On your list of classes is something called “SEL time.” This is scheduled for the first day of the week and occurs right after 2nd period. Please watch for a communication next week regarding SEL time and other building/campus initiatives. For the first two days of school all students will go to SEL time and then after that it will be the first day of the week until the end of April.
Hopefully this is enough information for the time being. As mentioned, watch for another email next week. Please also review
this information to help your child be ready for school!
