Since February 2019, the human resources department of Geneva School District 304 has been thriving under the warm and capable guidance of Human Resources Coordinator Maria Ramos, better known as Suzy to all who know her, which is almost everyone in the district! With over one thousand employees, the district is one of the largest employers in Geneva, and the coordinator's role is essential in keeping everything running smoothly.
Ms. Ramos' main job is to work closely with the HR staff to ensure they provide top-notch customer service to all employees. The department's guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful, to support the staff so that the staff can support the students’ education.
“This has been the foundation of how I approach and manage our HR duties and team,” said Ms. Ramos. Reflecting on her role, she added, "My favorite part of my job is seeing employees flourish at different stages of their employment experience. From new hires to retirees, it's incredibly rewarding to be a resource for them. I also love training and developing our employees.”
She said investing in the employees has always been a core focus for her and the HR department. “It's so fulfilling to see their growth and life progressions over the years and to know that I had a part to play in that process," she said.
Outside work, she enjoys entertaining and spending quality time with friends and family. Life it busy with an 8-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son, but curling up with a book and a cup of hot tea is her favorite way to relax.
Ms. Ramos wants the Geneva community to know that everyone at Geneva School District works together to provide the best educational experience and environment for students. “This collective effort is what makes the district special and successful,” she said.
