Geneva 304 families, staff, and community,  

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world for all of us. But what has not changed is our commitment to providing students with quality educational experiences while prioritizing the health and safety of our entire Geneva 304 school community.?We truly are all in this together.  

Through collaborative and thoughtful planning as a team, we would like to update you with some details regarding the Back Together 304 plan while reaffirming some shared beliefs.  

As we have noted since our transition to emergency remote learning last spring, we all share the belief that we are at our best when we have students in person with teachers. We believe that there is no single learning plan that perfectly meets the needs of all stakeholders and recognize that families vary in their preference for either In-Person Learning and Online-Only Learning. We believe that in order to make the Back Together 304 plan the very best it can be, we need everyone as prepared as possible to provide a safe and high-quality learning environment for staff and students.  This means we must take the time to make sure we get it right. 

On Monday, the Board of Education will hear the recommendation for all K-12 students to start the 2020-21 school year on Monday, Aug. 31 (Geneva Early Learning Program preschool students would start Wednesday, Sept. 2). Under this plan, students would still participate in their In-Person Learning and Online-Only Learning models that families have selected for their students. This transition would tentatively make June 3 our new last day of school, and we will provide further information on this if there are changes.  

We will welcome teachers back on August 17 and immerse ourselves during that time in additional professional development opportunities and planning. This also allows time for additional guidance from state and local health departments, and focused approaches to delivering information and tools that will increase the level of comfort with our new protocols.   

We are grateful to you for your partnership in this decision, which helps us provide an exemplary teaching, learning, and social experience for our students, while providing a safe, healthy environment and transition for students and staff. While we remain in a fluid environment, we will continue to collaborate, adapt, and communicate when necessary.  

Additional information will be provided following next week's meeting. Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our entire school community navigates a situation together that none of us could have imagined. We miss our students, and we look forward to welcoming everyone Back Together in Geneva 304 starting Aug. 31.
