GHS Students Welcome Author, Discuss Child Development

Elizabeth Gerlach, mom to triplets, marketer and children's book author, came to visit Geneva High School's Child Development & Parenting and Early Childhood Education classes this month. Gerlachshared with the class about her pregnancy and delivery at 25 weeks, raising triplets, raising a child with significant special needs, and navigating the Early Intervention Program and other therapy options for her child.

She read her book, "Ben's Adventures A Day at the Beach," to the class. Her family's foundation, Ben Smiles, provides adapted toys, switches and other important devices to children with motor and/or developmental delays because often insurance does not cover these items. The Early Childhood Education classes at GHS plan on raising funds to support Ben Smiles in some way this semester, according to Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher Mrs. Sara Consdorf.
