Back Together 304 Updates from Superintendent

Back Together Superintendent Message

Nov. 9, 2020

I want to take this opportunity to thank our families, staff, and students for your continued flexibility and support as we continue to navigate the 2020-21 school year.

Today, it was announced that beginning Wednesday, Kane County will face heightened restrictions under the state’s Tier 2 mitigations. According to this plan, the current mitigation restrictions do not apply to schools. While we have seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Kane County and within our school population, there has been no indication to suggest transmission in our schools; but rather the cases are community-based. At this time, we are not changing our current educational delivery model. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and collaborate with our Health Services team and the Kane County Health Department. Our goal continues to be that we stay the course with the learning models that are in place, and we also ask everyone to remain prepared and adaptable if we find that we need to make a change in our plans.

We encourage everyone to follow these best practices:
  • Continue to follow the Three Ws: Wear a Mask, Wash Your Hands, Watch Your Distance
  • Continue to follow Daily Symptom Screening procedures: Keep students home and report the absence if ANY of the circumstances are true within 24 hours of your student’s on-site day:
-Your student is experiencing a new onset of one symptom on the symptom list not attributed to documented allergies or a pre-existing condition; OR
-Your student is subject to an isolation or quarantine protocol related to COVID-19; OR
        - Any household member is experiencing symptoms, is being evaluated by their medical provider or the health department; OR
-Any household member is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test.
  • Limit group sizes and celebrate safely: The CDC has created a webpage devoted to safe holiday gatherings and activities. Please visit this page as you plan for any upcoming celebrations.

Geneva 304 will continue to collaborate with our Health Services team, and our local and state health departments so that we can continue to prioritize a safe and healthy environment for our school community. If you have further questions, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions or the COVID-19 Dashboard pages.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kent Mutchler
Superintendent of Schools
