School Closing and Late Start Information

Posted: 12/2/2013
With Thanksgiving behind us and Winter Break fast approaching, it’s time to review Geneva School District’s late start and school closing procedures. In the event of inclement weather this winter, there are several ways Geneva School District will advertise that school will start late or be canceled.

If school is canceled or a late start implemented, the legal guardians of all students will be notified through use of Geneva School District’s emergency notification system. The system is set up to call the legal guardians’ highest priority numbers and to send a message to the guardians’ email addresses, provided that current phone and email information is on file in the District’s student information database.

In addition, school cancelation and late start notifications will be tweeted to the District’s @Geneva304 Twitter account followers, posted on Geneva School District’s website and emailed to all 304 Connects subscribers. Families may also call the District’s Administrative Offices – (630) 463-3001 – to hear a recorded telephone message concerning school closings and late starts.

This information is also reported to the Emergency Closing Center, which broadcasts the information on the following Chicago stations: WGN-AM (720), WBBM-AM (780), and CBS-TV (2), NBC-TV (5), ABC-TV (7), WGN-TV (9), FOX-TV, and CLTV cable.

Every effort is made to make a decision regarding school closures or a late start by 6 a.m. In the event that a late start is utilized, please be aware that there is still a possibility that school will be canceled if conditions do not improve. Every effort will be made to make this decision by 7 a.m., and parents and students are encouraged to continue to monitor the District’s website, Twitter feed, and local television/radio stations for updates.
