Posted: 12/19/2012
The City of Geneva was recently recognized by Bloomberg’s Businessweek as “The Best Place to Raise Kids in Illinois.”

Public school performance and safety were weighed most heavily in establishing the seventh annual list of “America’s Best Places to Raise Kids 2013,” according to an article published December 17, 2012 on businessweek.com.

“Geneva is a wonderful place to live, and we are very pleased that Geneva has received this much-deserved recognition,” said Superintendent Dr. Kent Mutchler. “We are fortunate to have such strong intergovernmental partnerships in Geneva, and this collaborative effort reflects very well on all those who live and work here.”

“We believe our schools reflect the community well, and the success of our students demonstrates the quality work of our excellent staff and the strong support of our parents and community,” Dr. Mutchler added.

According to businessweek.com, Businessweek teamed up with Bloomberg rankings to evaluate more than 3,200 places nationwide with populations between 5,000 and 50,000. In addition to public school performance and safety, evaluators also considered the local job market, which was gauged by looking at the median income and county-level unemployment, housing costs, commute time, poverty, adults’ educational attainment, share of households with children, and diversity. According to Businessweek, the data used to evaluate the cities came from GreatSchools.org, the FBI, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
