Viking Spotlight: Guadalupe Orozco
Mrs. Orozco in her classroom
Mrs. Orozco is the Geneva School District’s new elementary orchestra teacher. She will be based at Harrison Street School and will serve all elementary schools.

She is excited to meet her new students and share the world of playing string instruments. “I’m looking forward to having a wonderful year full of learning and growing,” she said.

In the 4th grade, she was inspired to learn how to play a string instrument after hearing a performance by the high school orchestra. She chose to learn the violin.

In 2014, Mrs. Orozco received her bachelor’s degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. During her first semester as a licensed educator, she served as a substitute teacher for several extended leaves across the Chicagoland area. In 2015, she was hired as the Elementary Orchestra Director at Indian Spring School District 109 (ISD109). During her tenure at ISD109, she helped students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades start their string instrument journey to cultivate a love of comradery and playing music.

During her free time, she likes to read. She is working her way through her long list of reading materials she calls her "To Be Read" pile; learning how to garden; and spending time with her family and husband, Mr. Orozco.?
