Help Fight Spread of Illnesses: This message from Geneva schools' Nursing Services offers advice on how to stay well this winter and what to do if you are sick.

What should you do if you are sick?

STAY HOME if you are becoming ill or are sick. Do not go out in public. Stay away from school, day cares, work, sports, fitness centers, clubs, church services, etc.

Allow time for recovery from illness. Remain home if you are having difficulty controlling coughs/sneezes, or cannot sleep, eat or drink well enough to function during the day.

If a fever over 100.0 develops, contact your physician. COVID, Influenza, Strep and Mono are circulating in the community. Prompt treatment through a doctor may lessen the course and severity of an illness.

If you are prescribed a medication, finish the entire course. If you are not tolerating the prescribed medication, report that to your doctor.

Follow the guidelines for recovery (when to return to work or school.) Coming back to work or school early may spread your illness and leave you more susceptible to catching further illnesses.

Masking is expected when returning to school or work on days 6-10 following COVID infection.

STAY HOME until you are fever free for 24hrs without the use of fever reducing medication.

STAY HOME until you are free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24hrs without the use of medication.

What can you do to promote health?

Remain hydrated and report concerns about eating or drinking to your doctor.

Consider vaccinations that are available for communicable diseases including COVID, Influenza.

COVER your nose and mouth with tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve. Throw used tissue into the trash and WASH HANDS or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Be in the habit of NOT touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands.

Clean & disinfect high touch or shared items during and after illness. Remember to clean high-use areas such as workspaces, phones, home restrooms, remote controls etc.

After illness use a new toothbrush, launder bedding and towels, and crack windows to allow fresh air into spaces.
