GMSN Science Class Learns about Beach Erosion
Three students at a lab table with a tray of sand and water
Students in Mr. Butcher's GMSN 6B science class got a taste of civil engineering last week! They applied what they learned about weathering and erosion (part of the geosphere and hydrosphere unit) to design an oceanfront city that can withstand major storms. In each challenge, the class learns about a different strategy or design that has been developed to alter the flow of water and the crashing of waves. Students then use these designs and change their beaches to survive different types of storms. In their final engineering challenge, they designed an oceanfront from sand and other materials.
