Shonette Sims Named Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching
Shonette Sims has been promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching
The Geneva School District 304 has promoted the Director of Learning and Teaching Shonette Sims to Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching. Sims will begin in the role on July 1, 2023, replacing the current Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching Dr. Andrew Barrett, who will be Superintendent for the District.

The Department of Learning and Teaching is responsible for ensuring that the District’s educators have the materials, resources, and professional development needed to engage, instruct, and support students. The department is also charged with evaluating the overall effectiveness of these resources and educational programming.

Sims has been with the District since July of 2004 when she was hired as a Dean of Students at Geneva High School. She held several administrative positions at Geneva High School before serving as the principal of Harrison Street Elementary School for five years. Before this, Sims was a special education teacher for eleven years.

Sims graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor of science degree in special education. She also holds a master’s degree in administration from Aurora University. She holds a Director of Special Education licensure and a Superintendent's licensure.

When asked what she likes most about working at Geneva 304, she said she enjoys working with all the people in the many roles throughout the district as well as students, staff, and parents. Sims shared that she would like the community to know that “we are united in our shared commitment to the growth and development of the school-aged children of Geneva.” Sims looks forward to serving in her new role as Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching.
