Students Achieve Honors at 2018-19 WordMasters Challenge: Meet 1

Each year, students across Geneva CUSD 304 participate in a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 participants. The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that holds three meets each year.The following are students who have been recognized from the first meet of the 2018-19 WordMasters Challenge™ program.

Geneva Middle School North: The eighth-grade team scored an impressive 189 points out of a possible 200, placing fifth in the nation. Competing in the difficult Blue Division, eighth-graders Evevlyn Griffith and Abby Hechy, each earned a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 37 eighth-graders achieved this result. Other students at Geneva Middle School North who achieved outstanding results in the first meet of the year include eighth-graders James Geismann, Rilee Hasegawa, Justin Huynk, Braeden Kraus, and Rose Ralston.

Mill Creek Elementary School: Competing in the very difficult Gold Division, third-grader Matthew Haughan and fourth-grader Nova Walker each earned a perfect score of 20. Nationally, only 11 third-graders and 58 fourth-graders achieved this result. Other students from Mill Creek who achieved outstanding results in the meet include third-grader Lana Bonnike and fourth-graders Casey Bean, Eleanor Costlow, and Julia Swierczewski.
