Geneva Middle School South Says 'Thank You' to Nurses
GMSS Nurses Appreciation
April 27, 2021

While technically, National Nurses Day falls next week, showing your appreciation is always timely, students and staff at Geneva Middle School South demonstrated today.

Following a scheduled fire drill that concluded outdoors, school nurses Lisa Gratz and Jill Michelson were surprised with a brief, celebratory ride around the building aboard a tractor driven by Principal Terry Bleau. The school, looking on, cheered and displayed signs they had made for the occasion, including phrases “Thank you, nurses” and “Can’t mask our gratitude.”

“It was a riot,” said Michelson, known by students as Nurse Jill. “We were really touched.”

“We are so grateful to work with such a wonderful family,” Mrs. Gratz said. “It made our day, week, month, and even our year,” she added.

This year is unlike any other, so the school wanted to show appreciation in a unique way that still fit in with the school schedule, according to Mr. Bleau. “Roles have stretched this year, and they proved they were able to do a lot more than they ever could,” he added. “And they did it well.”

The experience also provided students with a valuable learning opportunity that aligns with the District’s Vision of communication and citizenship, Mr. Bleau said. “We were able to show students about the importance of taking the time to show appreciation to those who have done things to help you and others.”
