Viking Spotlight: Brigid Buchman

Fourth Grade Teacher Brigid Buchman

When Brigid Buchman joined the Geneva School District in 2007, she brought more than just her degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University. Her journey to teaching was a fascinating one—she had previously worked at the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and was a dedicated stay-at-home mom. But her true calling was always education, inspired by her parents who were both teachers.

Today, she teaches fourth grade at Williamsburg Elementary School. But what is it about the job that she truly loves? “I love spending each day with these remarkable children,” she said. They laugh together, celebrate victories, and support each other during tough times. But it's not just the kids—Brigid's teammates are her lifeline. Their unwavering support ensures she can excel in her role.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Buchman is a curriculum-shaping dynamo. She serves on multiple committees—Technology, Science, Social Studies, and Math—helping to shape the educational experience for students.

But what about life outside school? Brigid enjoys riding her Harley with her husband and exploring scenic routes to Ottawa or Starved Rock on weekends. In the summer, they like to ride to Utah to visit their sons, Sean and Danny.

And let's not forget her love for reading fiction and teaching-related books. Plus, quality time at the dog park with her furry companion.

Brigid's message to parents and the community: Geneva 304 teachers genuinely care about their students. It's more than a job—it's a passion.

Besides her elementary education degree, Ms. Buchman holds master's degrees in reading and instructional technology from Aurora University.
