GHS Students Compete in Mini IDEA Engineering Challenge & CAD Cup

GHS students participated in engineering challenges

GHS student engineers currently enrolled in the highest level of the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, Engineering Design & Development led by Mathematics Teacher Mr. Simoncelli, competed for a spot in the Regional IDEA competition in March. They presented the creative products they developed in the engineering challenge and were judged by engineering experts from local businesses. The winning team, Kelly InKorporated, moves on to regionals. Below is a list of all the enterprising and creative students who participated in the competition:

Illumineers: Lilly Coats, Peyton Marzen, Lucas Gaston

Hancock Electric Co.: Caroline Madden, Dominic Ross, Henry Hancock

In addition, another event called the CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) Cup took place, with students from Batavia High School joining GHS students to competition is intended for future engineers currently enrolled in all three of our levels of the PLTW curriculum.  Given the option to compete in either a modeling or assembly prompt, students were tasked to apply their knowledge and skills to model or assemble small objects within a designated time period. These competitors are then graded against other GHS students and Batavia students. The competition prepares students for their upcoming regional IDEA competition in March, where multiple competitors with the highest scores will move ahead against other high school teams. While the scores were very close, Batavia won the CAD cup this year with a score of 170 to Geneva's 168.5.
