Students Achieve Honors at 2018-19 WordMasters Challenge: Meet 2

Each year, students across Geneva CUSD 304 participate in a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 participants. The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that holds three meets each year. The following are students who have been recognized from the second meet of the program.

Geneva Middle School North: The eighth-grade team scored an impressive 188 points out of a possible 200, placing first in the nation. Competing in the difficult Blue Division, eighth-graders Molly Cowett, Matt Gariti, and Braeden Kraus each earned a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 17 eighth-graders achieved this result. Other students from North who achieved outstanding results include eighth-graders Mick Lawrence and Allie Morris.

Harrison Street Elementary School: The fourth-grade team scored an impressive 182 points out of a possible 200, placing 10th in the nation. Competing in the very difficult Gold Division, fourth-graders Tessa Helfers and Claire Totman, and fifth-graders Mack Biesk and Ellie Haberthur each earned a perfect score of 20 on the challenge. Nationally, only 29 fourth-graders and 61 fifth-graders achieved this result. Other students from Harrison who achieved outstanding results include fourth-grader Adrian Marcheschi.

Mill Creek Elementary School: Competing in the very difficult Gold Division, fifth-grader Matthew Lemke earned a perfect score of 20; nationally, only 61 fifth-graders achieved this result. Other students from Mill Creek who achieved outstanding results include fourth-grader Eleanor Costlow and fifth-grader John Chang.
