The District uses a Standard Response Protocol developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation. It’s important that everyone, including parents, guardians, students, staff and first responders, understand the shared vocabulary used during emergencies. The following five commands are used to provide directions to students, staff and administrators in the event of an emergency.

HOLD

HOLD
When a HOLD is called, students and teachers stay in their classrooms because there is a situation in the hallways that doesn’t pose a threat to students or staff, such as a medical situation, but requires the hallways be clear.
- Stay in classroom
- Learning continues as normal
- Wait for "All Clear" to be announced

SECURE

SECURE
When SECURE is called, a danger exists outside the building.
- Everyone is brought inside the building
- Exterior doors are locked
- No one is allowed in or out
- Learning continues as normal

LOCKDOWN

LOCKDOWN
If a LOCKDOWN is called, there may be danger inside the building. Classroom doors are locked, lights are turned off, and students are trained to stay quiet and in place. We stay out of sight and do not open the door until the local law enforcement comes into the room.
- Classroom doors are locked
- Lights out
- Stay quiet and out of sight

EVACUATE

EVACUATE
When we are instructed to EVACUATE, students are moved to a safe location in a quick and orderly process.
- Students move to a safe location

SHELTER

SHELTER
If SHELTER is called, we shelter in place and use appropriate safety strategy, depending on the hazard. For tornado, we evacuate to the shelter area, for hazmat we seal the room, and for an earthquake we drop, cover, and hold.
- Shelter instructions vary based on the hazard
