FES students share what's special about their school

RECOGNITION, AWARDS, PRESENTATIONS, PUBLIC HEARINGS 
Fabyan Elementary School Principal Lauri Haugen, with PE Teacher Mr. Austin, Librarian Ms. McDonald, PTO President Ms. Nemcek, Bus Driver Ms. Smith, and four 5th graders Connor Lothson, Emmerson York, Everett Cowan, Makayla Costello from FES, presented “What Makes Our School Special.”  



Harrison Street School Principal Michelle Hirsch recognized Tracy Pankow, who is retiring as the Principal’s Secretary at Harrison Street School after more than 30 years of service.  









Superintendent Dr. Andy Barrett recognized the Board of Education for Illinois Board Members Day, November 15 (at left, left to right: Paul Radlinski, Stefanie Bellino, Willard Hooks, Jr., Jackie Forbes, Larry Cabeen, Dan Choi, Molly Ansari).

Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching Shonette Sims with Geneva High School staff including Corrine Beckman, Heather Peters, Andy Cozzi, and Drew Longo presented "Enhancing Rhetorical Skills with Graphic Novels in Senior English.” 


Assistant Director of Business Services Adrian Ramirez presented the Proposed 2024 Tentative Tax Year Levy (Policy 4:10). 


SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT 
Dr. Andy Barrett recognized Veterans Day by thanking all who served in the military and shared that, because school was in session, students throughout the District had the opportunity to participate in many important educational experiences on Veterans Day.  
He shared a video showing students at Heartland Elementary School watching as their Principal Ms. Hornberg accepted the National Blue Ribbon Award in Washington, D.C. last week. 

BOARD DIALOGUE TOPICS & PENDING ACTION CONSIDERATIONS 
The Board approved updates to several policies. The Board also approved the GHS Proposal for New & Modified Courses for 2025-26. 

WORK-STUDY TOPICS & FUTURE ACTION CONSIDERATIONS 
The Board reviewed the drafts of the 2025-26 School Calendar as presented by Asst. Supt. for Learning and Teaching Shonette Sims. 

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS 
Several members congratulated the GHS football team on their playoff game win last week and wished them luck for the next game. Other members thanked the staff and students who presented at the meeting, saying they found it very interesting. They said they attended the GMSS PTO meeting and thanked them for everything they do to support students.  

Another member talked about the plans for the Policy Committee. They commented on the wonderful sense of community engagement shown through the Veterans Day presentation at GMSS. One member said they enjoyed the GEA Trivia Night, a scholarship fund fundraiser. They gave a shout-out to the sports boosters for all the money they raised through their hard work. Another member said that what was presented at the meeting was quite meaningful, and they appreciated the work that is done in the District.
