About the Board of Education

The Board of Education is a seven-member board made up of residents of the Geneva 304 community. Members are elected by the general public, serve four-year terms, and are not compensated for their service to the School District.

The Board of Education is responsible for the educational programs for grades preschool through 12. The Board’s job is to adopt goals and policies that meet state requirements and reflect community needs; provide the resources necessary to pursue its goals according to its policies; and monitor district performance to see that results are consistent with goals and policies.

Among the Board’s legal duties are hiring necessary personnel and setting their salaries; providing and maintaining school buildings; letting all contracts and paying all bills; and arranging the revenue necessary to operate the School District; among other tasks.

School Board Governance Recognition - In 2021, the Geneva Board of Education was one of only 20 school boards in the state to be recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for effective governance behaviors. The award is issued every two years.

Board Earns Governance Recognition Honor

The Geneva 304 Board of Education has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for its exceptional governance practices. Geneva 304 was one of 53 Illinois school districts to earn the School Board Governance Recognition honor for their effective governance behaviors and their commitment toward obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead the district.
