RECOGNITION, AWARDS, PRESENTATIONS, PUBLIC HEARINGS 
Geneva High School Principal Tom Rogers presented “What Makes Your School Special.” Superintendent Dr. Barrett, GMSS Principal Terry Bleau and GMSN Principal Dave Carli presented “Middle School Enrollment & Staffing Presentation.”  


LEGISLATIVE UPDATE 
Board member Jackie Forbes attended a legislative breakfast and heard legislators talk about one bill that would analyze Tier II pensions.  

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT 
Superintendent Dr. Andy Barrett thanked the Technology Team for everything they are doing with our network and firewall, working late hours to work through challenges. He also thanked the Transportation Department for everything they do to get kids to school safely and on time. He talked about the Inclement Weather Plan and how difficult decisions are made on days with bad weather.  

He shared the Illinois School Report Card website and showed charts that provide a variety of data points related to money spent per student and student performance.
 
BOARD DIALOGUE TOPICS & PENDING ACTION CONSIDERATIONS 
The Board took action to approve updates to policies that were proposed by the Policy Committee.  

WORK-STUDY TOPICS & FUTURE ACTION CONSIDERATIONS 
The Board reviewed the proposed 2025-26 Board Meeting Calendar. 

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS 
Several board members said they enjoyed the presentations and thanked the principals for sharing.  
One member said it was nice to hear that GHS added a shuttle on the cold days last week for GHS students who parked in the far Burgess lot.   

Another member said after several weeks after a loss there can be silence and for some the silence is difficult to bear. They encouraged all to check in with each other.  

One Board member thanked the principals for thinking far ahead strategically to ensure the district acts in the right way. They encouraged everyone to attend GHS Little Women production on Feb. 6 and 8.  

They attended a GHS PTO meeting where they are planning for the spring already. They shared that the GHS PTO needs volunteers for Post Prom. They encouraged everyone to attend a PTO meeting.  

One member acknowledged the shift away from the middle school teams model is a difficult task and said great work. They thanked the community for the generous donations. They said they enjoyed the Board Retreat last week. They attended the Heartland Elementary School Blue Ribbon Flag Raising celebration and a Blue Ribbon Ball.  

Another member thanked Mr. Rogers for sharing what’s special about GHS. They talked about Sophia Borter, GHS long-distance runner who was highlighted on the NBC News.  

One member encouraged everyone to come out to the Geneva Unified Vikings Basketball Game on Saturday, Feb. 1 in the Contest Gym. They also acknowledged how the community must come together to get through difficult changes.  Another member said they attended a PTO meeting and said our school district is extraordinary.
