The collection for the Toys for Kids Program continues! All you have to do is bring a new, unwrapped, toy or book to the office or library. Do you have a library fine? If you bring in a newly purchased toy for the collection, your library fine will be wiped out! Even if you don’t have a library fine, it would still be really great to make a toy donation and help a family in need have a nice holiday. You don’t have to wrap it; just bring your gift to the office. We will be collecting until this Friday December 10th.

The annual Book Fair is next week, Wednesday December 13th at Barnes and Noble in the Geneva Commons.  Join us after school until 8pm where you can shop, listen to great music performed by students from South, do fun S.T.E.M activities, and enjoy food from the café.  All proceeds will benefit the GMSS Library! As a fun bonus, students who come dressed for the holiday season or wear spirit wear will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card.  Winners will be drawn at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm.  Hope to see you there!

Geneva Middle School North and South will be offering another Community Service project on Monday, December 11th from 3:30 – 4:30 in the Sewing room at North. We will be making fleece tie blankets for patients at Delnor Hospital who are unable to go home for the holidays. Our goal is to make 50 blankets.

There will be a Science Club meeting tomorrow after school at North until 4:25. Students can meet in Mr. Duber’s classroom 154 right after school so that everyone can go over to North as a group.  Tomorrow’s topic will be Wind Power!

From the Sports Desk:

The 7th grade boys’ basketball teams both improved their records last night at St Charles Thompson.  The A team had a cold shooting night, but managed to keep their lead from halftime to win by 8 points.  The B team had a tight game with Thompson but made some great plays at the end and won by one point.  Both teams will be in action tomorrow over at Geneva North.

The 8th grade A team battled and kept it close until the finish, but couldn't seal the deal.  Chris Suger was aggressive and solid on both ends of the floor.

The 8th grade B team was flat in the first half but lit a spark in the 4th quarter.  After being down 14 points the Vikings pulled within 3 late in the game. It was a great effort to climb all the way back, but unfortunately they came up just short.

7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball tryouts will be held on Monday, December 18th and Tuesday, December 19th.  Tryouts will run until 5:20 both days.  All girls that are interested in coming out need to have a current sports physical on file.

Good luck to the 7th and 8th grade cheerleaders today at their showcase! They have worked very hard this season and are ready to perform the Geneva fight song, stunts and a dance. Good luck girls! Remember to be ready right after school and the meet the bus at 3:40 at North.
