The Conservation Club distributed small green or blue recycling bins to each team center yesterday afternoon.  Please use these bins to recycle markers, pens, mechanical pencils, and empty glue sticks.  Due to our recycling endeavors last year, the club was able to redeem points we had earned to help fund charitable events like providing drinking water to people in need and protecting an acre of rainforest.

What do Jolly Ranchers wrappers, Blow-pop wrappers, pencil shavings, and Kleenex all have in common?  They are all items that should go in the trash, not the recycling bin.  Putting wrong things in the recycling bins means that nothing in there actually gets recycled.   The Conservation Club put signs in each classroom to promote the correct disposal of recycling and trash items.   Please use these to dispose of waste properly.

From the Sports Desk:

Last night, the Viking varsity football team traveled to Batavia High School to take on the Bull Dogs of Rotolo Middle School. The game was a defensive slugfest from the opening kick-off. Unfortunately, in spite of outstanding efforts on both sides of the ball, the Vikings fell just short in the closing minutes, losing to the Bull Dogs by a final score of 12-6. Next up for Viking FootballMonday at home versus Yorkville.

It was a picture esc day for cross-country last night and as usual the stars shined for your South Vikings at the Franklin Invitational.

The team took home some big team prizes including a first-place finish from the 8th grade boys and boys open, a second-place finish for the 6th/7th girls, a third-place trophy in the 6th/7th race, and gutsy races from the the girls open and 8th grade girls.

For the girls, Alexis Guess, Ellie Capo, Ashley Stinger, Millie Bratslavsky, and Kate Bellino all had amazing races.  On the boys front, Davis Van Kleek, McCullen Hallahan, Matthew Bultmann, Gabe Ochenschlager, and big first place finisher Noah Yung led the charge.
