Year after year, many members of the community work behind the
scenes to support enhanced learning experiences for the students of Geneva
Community Unit School District 304.
The Geneva Academic Foundation is one of many such examples. Founded more than 30 years ago, the nonprofit organization has raised money to fund grants for the purchase of equipment, tools, programs and services for classrooms throughout Geneva 304 that are outside of normal funding channels. They also provide two annual scholarships to graduating seniors.
The GAF is able to continue its fundraising mission thanks to the community
support at events such as the annual Grand Gala, according to GAF Board Member
Maureen Fisk.
On Saturday, Oct. 20, this year’s Grand Gala will be hosted at
Dunham Woods Riding Club on Army Trail Road. All monies raised from the Gala, the GAF’s largest event, are
dedicated toward these goals, Fisk says.
“The evening will begin with appetizers and cocktails, along with a dinner of filet mignon or sautéed salmon and dessert,” Fisk said. “We are very excited to host several students from the GHS music program accompanied on piano. After dinner, Greg Hyde, a top local musician will perform during a silent auction, wine pull and dancing,” she added.

“The Geneva Academic Foundation has been in existence for 31 years,”
according to Fisk. “It was initially started by a handful of Geneva business
leaders who wanted to fund computers for the schools. The Foundation has
expanded beyond the initial goal but is still guided by a volunteer group who
are passionate about supporting the objectives of the Foundation,” she added.
Over the years, the GAF has awarded almost $1.4 million to support
the students, teachers and schools of District 304. More information about GAF
