Back Together 304 Joint Message Update
Feb. 12, 2021

This is an update on our current educational planning during this pandemic situation. As we have explained in the past, guidelines and expectations continue to change in order to keep our students and staff safe while moving forward in learning and teaching.

As we most recently shared, Geneva CUSD 304 employees received the opportunity to sign up for COVID-19 vaccine appointments and receive the first round of vaccines this week with a second round to come, as part of the state’s 1B rollout plan. We are thankful to the Kane County Health Department and the Kane County Regional Office of Education for their work.

While this is a step in moving forward to expanding in-person instruction for our students, the vaccinations are one piece of the puzzle.

As a community, it remains important to follow the guidelines of state and local public health agencies, which includes wearing masks, socially distancing, cleaning protocols, and mitigating risk. We are encouraged by the current trends in our school community dashboard and believe these precautions have been a contributing factor. We will continue to actively monitor any changes in guidance from the state and local agencies.

The District recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all learning model for everyone, which is why we offered the in-person and online-only learning options for families since the start of the school year. It remains a priority as we move forward that we continue to offer options to students and parents.

As this joint statement reflects, our planning involves a high degree of teamwork while we actively meet, discuss and plan on a continual basis in our effort to maximize in-person education for our students in a safe manner. We understand that this difficult situation has put a strain on everyone in our school community. This will continue to be part of our conversations as we move forward day to day, as well as at our next joint meeting in the coming weeks. We understand the importance of keeping the community informed and will communicate updates about the status of possible future changes.

Thank you for your support and flexibility as we navigate the situation while remaining focused on providing safe, high-quality learning experiences for our students.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kent Mutchler, Superintendent
Taylor Egan, Board of Education President
Kevin Gannon, GEA President
Leann Enneking, GSSA President
