Congrats to the 8th grade A and B volleyball teams for their domination over Batavia in last nights’ match! Special shout out to Marla Trimble for her excellent serve receive and defense, Ally Ward for her down the line kill and first block of the season, Caroline Madden for her 12-point serving streak and Ivy black for her 13-point serving streak. Last night, the 8th Grade Geneva Viking Football team took to the
turf of Geneva High School to battle previously unbeaten Yorkville for the Fox
River Prairie Conference Title.
The Vikings opened the
game with a 70-yard drive, capped by a Nate Stempowski touchdown pass to Jacob
Black. After the Viking defense forced a Yorkville punt, the offense scored a
second first half touchdown when Stempowski connected with Charlie Winterhalter.
Yorkville battled back, scoring just before half to pull within a score at the
break. In the second half, Yorkville continued its comeback, scoring a second
touchdown to pull within two points. That is as close as they would get. The
defense forced a turnover on the first drive of the half. The Viking offense
put together a sustained drive and finished with a rushing touchdown by Nate
Stempowski. The defense hammered the final nail when Joey Costentino came up
with a huge sack and Stempowski picked off Yorkville's final pass. The Vikings
hoisted the conference trophy for the second year in a row--final score Geneva
24, Yorkville 14.
