Viking Alliance, a newly formed club at Geneva Middle
School South, will have its first meeting after school on Friday, October 4th
in the Reading Lounge. Viking Alliance is a student-led club for anyone who
would like to do fun activities in a supportive, inclusive and nonjudgmental
atmosphere. Viking Alliance is about valuing all people no matter their cultural beliefs or their sexual
orientation.
If you believe in everyone’s right to be themselves, think that differences make a community stronger and enjoy lively discussion about diversity and inclusion, then this club is for you.
Please see Mrs. Rolf in the
Guidance Office if you have any questions.
Do you hear sleigh bells? Christmas
is only about three months away. And do
you know what would be an awesome gift for your mom, dad, grandma or your
favorite uncle? A scarf or washcloth
that YOU crocheted in the Crochet Intramural! Adults LOVE homemade stuff from our kids! So,
pop into to the office and pick up a permission slip soon!
Do you sometimes find yourself needing extra help in math? From
time to time do you have questions about math homework? Do you wish you had
other opportunities to meet with a math teacher? Well, beginning next week
there will be math tutoring sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays before school
from 7:45-8:30 and after school from 3:30-4:20 pm. Feel free to drop in any
session for as long as you need. No sign up is required.
Composer
Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein joined forces in 1943 to create
one of the most successful partnerships in American musical theater. They created many highly successful musical
plays such as Oklahoma, The King and I and South Pacific. Together they have won dozens of awards, and
this morning you heard a little bit from probably the most well know musical, The
Sound of Music.
6th and 8th grade boys’ lunch groups remember that you are meeting today.
The first Math Club meeting of the school year is going to be Monday after school until 4:20 in Mrs. Gain’s room 122 at North. Plan to have your ride pick you up at North or take the activity bus home.
Social Studies
Club kicks off its first meeting with another Amazing Race on Monday, September
23rd until 4:25 in Mr. Fader's room in the 8W team center.
Other Club
meetings next week include Art Club on Monday and Books and Breakfast on Friday.
The next intramural is going to be Bowling! It’s going to start October 10th, it will last for 8 weeks and it’s only $50 to join. Also this intramural is for both North and South students, so this is a great chance to do something fun with your friends from North! Permission slips are available in the Main Office.
Don’t forget that next week is a Spirit Wear week! We’re going to kick off the week with a Pajama Day. Personally, I can think of a better way to start the week than to wear your pajamas to school!
Music students: today is a Band/Orchestra
day.
From
the Sports Desk
Last night, Seventh Grade Volleyball took on Aurora Washington in a home match. Strong net play by Adelaide Evans, and impressive sets by Addy Kling led the “A” team in their competitive match. “A” lost, but demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the game.
The “B” team rallied to defeat their opponent in two exciting games. Angelyn Jerozal and Chloe Wickham led the team with serving, and Elizabeth Schulte put up multiple perfect passes.
Yesterday
your 8th Grade Geneva Vikings Football team had their 2nd conference game of the season vs. the Wredling RedHawks. The Defense started the game as a dominant force and caused a 3 and out. The Vikings then took the ball and marched down the field to cap it off with an 8-yard run by Nate Stempowski for the Vikings 1st touchdown. Nate
would go on to throw for 2 more touchdowns to Rocco Dileonardi and Smiling Jack
Matthews. Jacob Black then took it to
the house for a 45-yard run. Charlie Winterhalter capped the game off on the offensive side by
scoring on the longest run of the day from 70 yards. On the defensive side of
the ball, the Vikings held the RedHawks to a scoreless game. Stempowski had an interception that really
boosted the Vikings players. Jack
Matthews forced a fumble that was picked up by Rocco Dileonardi. Charlie Winterhalter also had a fumble
recovery that helped keep the RedHawks grounded. The 8th Grade Vikings have a
perfect conference record and will be playing their final conference game on
Tuesday the 24th against Yorkville @ Geneva High School. Let’s stack the stands and get everyone out to GHS so we can root on our 8th-grade team. Be The Hammer!!
Your 7th grade football
team became CONFERENCE CHAMPS last night by defeating St. Charles Wredling by a
score of 26-0. Caden Anderson and Michael Romero had two touchdowns each and
Caden Anderson also had a fumble recovery to lead the Vikings to victory.
Caden
Sorenson did an excellent job in his first start as quarterback filling in for
an ill Tony Chahino. Caden connected with Bryce Adams for a huge 1st quarter 40-yard
bomb that set up one of the four touchdowns and ran a very consistent offense
that saw three long drives.
