Why study world literature?

Most high school curricula expose students to a wealth of authors from Western Civilization, especially American and British "greats." However, the world today is rapidly becoming smaller as we become an increasingly global culture. Geneva High School's World Literature class seeks to expose students to the literature of non-western authors, literature to which a student otherwise might not be exposed. Our primary objective is to seek out and explore the connections between our own culture and of the authors that we read.
