Hello! My name is Joe Schoen, and I am the Earth Science, Astronomy, and Natural Disasters teacher at Geneva High School.
I came to GHS in August of 2001, after graduating from the University of Illinois, Urbana, where I received my Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Anthropology and Geology, and my Master of Science in Geoscience Education. While at the U of I, I taught adjunct courses at Danville Area Community College in Physical Science (Geology, Astronomy, and Meteorology) and in Physical Geology. I also served as a University Teaching Assistant in several different Geology courses. In August of 2010 I earned a Master's degree in Geography/Meteorology from Northern Illinois University.
I began teaching all Earth Sciences in Fall of 2001, I developed and began teaching the Astronomy class in the Fall of 2002, and developed and began teaching the Natural Disasters class in Fall of 2006. Currently I teach Astronomy, Natural Disasters, and Earth Science and serve as the GHS coach for the Scholastic Bowl Team and the Ultimate Frisbee Team.
