Standard Response Protocol

The District uses a Standard Response Protocol developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation. It’s important that everyone, including parents, guardians, students, staff and first responders, understand the shared vocabulary used during emergencies.

HOLD

HOLD
When a HOLD is called, it’s important that students and teachers stay in their classrooms. A HOLD is called when there is a situation in the hallways that doesn’t pose a threat to students or staff, such as a medical situation, but that requires the hallways be clear. Teachers should continue learning as usual and stay in classrooms until “All clear” is announced.

SECURE

SECURE
When a SECURE is called, a danger exists outside the building. School personnel will bring all students inside the building if they are outside and ensure that the exterior doors are locked. No one is allowed in or out of the building. Learning continues as normal inside the building.

LOCKDOWN

LOCKDOWN
If a LOCKDOWN is called, there may be danger inside the building. Classroom doors are locked, lights are turned off, and students are trained to stay quiet and in place. We stay out of sight and do not open the door until the local law enforcement comes into the room.

EVACUATE

EVACUATE
When we are instructed to EVACUATE, students are moved to a safe location in a quick and orderly process.

SHELTER

SHELTER
If SHELTER is called, we shelter in place and use appropriate safety strategy, depending on the hazard. For tornado, we evacuate to the shelter area, for hazmat we seal the room, and for an earthquake we drop, cover, and hold.
